Upcoming Kalahari Visit

Dells Advice on April 18th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I found a great deal at the Kalahari on the Travelzoo Weekly Top 20 list.  The deal was $99 a night for selected dates plus a free pizza and 4 sodas for each night of your stay.  I have been to the Kalahari to check it out before, but have never stayed there.  When this deal came around, I jumped at it right away.

I received an email from Kalahari yesterday saying that their Flowrider attraction will be undergoing maintenance for part of my stay, and will be closed.  The Flowrider is the surfing and body-boarding attraction.  I am really impressed that they actually made the effort to let their guests know that one of the attractions is going to be closed.  They even went as far as offering to let people reschedule without penalty if the Flowrider being closed was a deal killer to them.  Wow.

Part of the water park being closed brought me back to a couple of years ago when we visited Chula Vista during the middle of the summer.  It was prime season, and we paid prime rates to stay a couple of nights.  When we went outside to the kids area of their water park we were disappointed to see it closed down for maintenance for the duration of our stay.   No one at Chula Vista made an effort to let us know about this before we got there, or even when we checked in.  We spent the vacation in the old indoor water park, and were really disappointed.  (side note: We have been back to Chula Vista a couple of times since then, and love their new indoor water park - more on that in future posts.)

My family and I are really looking forward to a couple of nights at the Kalahari.  Letting guests know about a closed attraction ahead of time really makes it seem like they know how to do things right.
