The Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells is once again offering a 20% discount for stays in January, February and March. The code to get this discount is REPEATB for rooms in the hotel, and REPEATBC for condo units. The code is good for stays through March 12th. To get the 20% discount, you need to reserve by February 16th. After February 16th, the discount drops to 10%

Santa Train on the Riverside and Great Northern Railway

The Riverside and Great Northern Railway will be operating their Santa Train again this year. Santa will be arriving the day after Thanksgiving, November 28th, and be appearing all weekend long, and the following weekend, December 6th and 7th. Kids can come and see Santa, and families can take a ride on the charming Riverside and Great Northern Railway through the beautiful Wisconsin Dells woods and countryside.

Train rides cost $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $8 for children 4 and up. Admission to the museum and learning center is free. You can use this coupon from the Riverside and Great Northern Railway website for $1 off each admission.

Great Wolf Lodge December Specials

A while back I received a promotional mailing from Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells with special promo codes for discounts for December visits. One of the promotions was for the Great Wolf Lodge Snowland festivities in December. As a part of Snowland, they have several activities for children.

Candy Cane Lane - an area for kids to decorate cookies, and make crafts
North Pole University - a workshop for kids to learn how to become an elf
Special holiday themed storytimes each day
Voting on Christmas Trees decorated by Great Wolf Lodge staff members
Snow in the lobby three times a day

The mailer I got gave a coupon code of SNOWLAND to be used when booking rooms in December for the special events. I called the Great Wolf Lodge to find out more about this, and it turns out that you don’t need any special codes to participate in the Snowland festivities. If you are planning on visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in December, the better code to use is REPEAT for the hotel or REPEATC for the condos. This code is for 20% off the best available room rate, and can be used through Christmas.

Discounted Dells Attractions this Weekend

As a part of the Autumn Harvest Fest this weekend, there are several top notch Dells attractions that are offering Buy One Get One Free admissions during the festival. In order to take advantage of these deals, you need to have the Autumn Harvest Fest brochure to present when you buy your tickets at the attraction. The brochure is available to print online here.

I spoke with a representative of the Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau, and she wasn’t sure if printed copies of the brochure would be accepted by the different attractions. Not to be concerned though, since brochures are available at the Visitors Bureau’s offices located at 701 Superior Street in downtown Wisconsin Dells. The Visitors Bureau is open from 8:30 – 5:00, 7 days a week.

The Pumpkin Train on the Riverside and Great Northern Railway

A couple of years ago, my family and I stumbled upon the Riverside and Great Northern Railway in the Dells. They offer a really charming train ride through 3 miles of beautiful scenery adjacent to the Wisconsin River north of Wisconsin Dells. The train that they operate is on a 15″ gauge track (much smaller than the typical 4′ + track of a full sized train). When we visited in 2006, the train went 3 miles or so into the woods, and then drove backwards back to the train station. Going backwards on the train was a little odd, to say the least. Since that time, they have installed turntables at both ends of the line. When the train reaches the end of the line, the engineer unhooks the engine, turns it around on the turntable, and then hooks it to the last car and makes the way back to the station. They repeat this procedure once they get back to the station.

In the month of October, the Riverside and Great Northern Railway operates its Pumpkin Train. The Pumpkin Train can make for a very nice fall family activity. The ride is the same, but on the way back the train stops about halfway back so everyone can get out, and the kids can pick out a pumpkin. The entire trip takes about 40 minutes. Once you are back at the station, there is a train museum and learning center, plus a train museum store.

The Riverside and Great Northern Railway is run by a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring steam powered, light railway trains. One of the benefits I have gotten from staying at several Wisconsin Dells hotels is the promotions they send to previous guests. As readers of my blog, you benefit from this as well!

I recently received the Great Wolf Lodge fall newsletter. Included in the newsletter were two discount codes for stays from 9/1/08 – 12/25/05. To get 20% off the best available room rate when booking online, use promo code REPEAT for rooms in the hotel, or REPEATC for condo reservations. I tried a couple of sample dates on the website, and the promo codes indeed knocked 20% off the advertised rate.
